Shortfall after education funding changes hits Horizon district
The Horizon school board faces a net shortfall of 499 436 due to a 2.2 percent increase in the Special Education allocation and cuts in other grants. Despite a 4.4 percent instructional grant rise, reductions in Grade 4 to 6 funding ESL, Distance, Growth and Decline, and 50 percent AISI cuts offset the gains. Board member Gilmore criticizes government messaging while the district relies on reserves to preserve staffing and programs.
