Railway Statistics Show 1916 US Rails Record Traffic And Growth

The 1916 year marked record traffic and earnings for Grey railways of the United States with 1,058 miles of new construction, up from 923 in 1915. Net operating income in 1916 exceeded six percent, yet operating expenses grew rapidly, driven by wage increases and higher costs for rails and cars.
