President Harrison formally accepts the Republican nomination, outlining his record and defending protective tariffs, reciprocity, and a strong national economy. He urges continuation of national banks, shipbuilding, and agricultural support while opposing Democratic tariff reversals and drastic policy shifts. The address criticizes free trade, defends the current tariff law, and advocates nonpartisan electoral reform and free ballots.
In New Orleans on September 5, McAuliffe defeats Myer to win the world lightweight championship after a long, hard-fought 15 round contest. Crowd of hundreds packed the Olympic club house as officials noted weight limits and referees oversaw the bout. Myer battled strongly with his right hand, but McAuliffe dominated most rounds and secured victory with a late flurry.
The defendant in the action brought by W D Haywood J.P. is summoned on August 27, 1692, Raleigh city, to answer two notes from September 1879 totaling 1642.40 with interest. The proceeding seeks recovery of the amount due and will be heard at the justice's office where the warrant will be returned. The defendant must appear to demur or answer.
