Parnellites plan to nominate a candidate against John E. Redmond for Cork in the House of Commons seat vacated by Parnell. Anti-Parnellites lament Davitt’s delay as campaigning starts. Tory Capt. Sarsfield chosen to contest Parnell’s old stronghold, but some Conservatives doubt the move.
London reports Sir William Gordon Cumming protests to Elgin council over funding a public reception for the Duke and Duchess of Fife. Despite pressure to withdraw, he remains firm. The Duchess is a daughter of the Prince of Wales, linked by some to Tranby Croft events, attracting mixed condemnation of his action.
George Bain a prominent commission man and chairman of the Republican city committee died early today in St Louis after weeks of illness not considered critical. He had been active in local politics and business.
The United Typothetae held its Cincinnati session on Oct. 22 electing W. H. Shepard of Toronto as president Everett Waddy of Richmond as secretary and Charles H. Busse of Cincinnati as treasurer The office of corresponding secretary was abolished The next convention will be August 14 1892 in Toronto Ont.
Secretary of the Treasury Foster made his first Ohio campaign speech to about 6 000 people in Findlay escort and torchlight procession. He urged strong support for Maj. McKinley in a five minute ovation and strong advocacy for the Republican ticket.
Gov Hill and party toured the Atlanta Exposition grounds, spoke briefly at the grand stand, praising Henry Grady and southern prosperity. He noted past crowds, urged unity between the sections, and expressed hope the exposition would succeed. The party then headed to Richmond & Danville track and boarded a private car for the North.
The Crookstone postoffice was robbed at three this morning of 3500 in stamps and 100 in cash. The stamps were later recovered in an alley. The safe was blown open without waking anyone.

Telegram from Colonel Borxin announces the Fifth Maryland Regiment N G will visit Raleigh November 9 to 12 for Maryland Days on November 11 and 12. Governor Jackson of Maryland will accompany the regiment. They will be housed in a three story warehouse at South Wilmington Street and East Cabarrus, with arrangements to welcome them.
The Wilmington Review details a Wayne County Rockingham incident where a wife eloped with another man taking their seven year old son to South Carolina. The man died on Saturday and the wife on Monday leaving the boy as neighbors found him. The father later retrieved his son and said he would have killed both if they had met.
Rev J F Moser urges North Carolina evangelical ministers and laymen to meet soon and discuss concerns about Sam Jones and what he calls Modern Evangelism. He says six to eight pastors should represent denominations to plan a program. If benefits prove true, doubt remains. if evil shows, they must warn and denounce.
Tonight at 9 in the Yarborough House dining room an enjoyable concert aims to aid St Johns Hospital which faces closure due to lack of funds. The event, organized by a generous cityman, urges donations of fifty cents or more to comfort the sick and support the hospital’s mercy work.
Appeals from the fourth district were argued yesterday in the Supreme Court with Moore vs Goodwin as plaintiff Battle and Mordecai represented by counsel and S G Ryan for the defendant. Weir vs Page had Ryan for the plaintiff and Batchelor Devereux for the defendant.
