British Aristocracy Degenerating and Gladstone’s Plans
A London cable dispatch notes rising aristocratic scandals as a niece recognizes a dissipated Earl, a baronet’s brother swindles, and Sir Henry Goold faces exposure in a literary imposture. Gladstone, in health, may push home rule with a mass of Liberal peers if Lords balk at a Commons bill. The Czarovitch’s Vienna visit signals potential Russo-Austro-Hungarian reconciliation.

Bagley Buries Express Funds Then Arrested
At Cutcaco on Nov 19 George T Bagley a United Express messenger on the Rock Island and Pacific railroad took two packages containing 250000 dollars from his safe left the train at Davenport and buried the treasure. He was arrested within eight hours. Detectives traced a dressmaker Mrs Miller at 311 Michigan Ave. and Bagley admitted the money could be found near Genese Ohio about a half hour from Davenport. Express officials deny any robbery saying it was a miscue. Detectives counter that the facts are as stated. The dressmaker is not suspected.
