Old Wilson Hotel Fire At Winston Causes Losses

Fire destroyed the old Wilson Hotel at Liberty and Third Streets Winston N C owner R D Johnston merchant tailor the building housed a proprietor a colored undertaker and a printing office run by E D Hayter colored losses about 10000 with 7500 insured the fire started in the printing office the editor and business manager of the paper were held on suspicion then freed for lack of evidence.

Closing Work At Convention Reveals Rich Funeral Tributes

The North Carolina Episcopal Diocese convention held sessions with tributes to the late Rev. R. H. Smith and Rev. N. C. Hughes, adopting resolutions and planning June 26 as the next meeting. Subscriptions to the Episcopal fund rose to 4000 dollars, with officers and clergy urged to report parish contributions. A bishop coadjutor title debate concluded, memorial robed relics debated, and a trustee election completed as the assembly adjourned.

Infanta Eulalia Arrives in New Jersey for Official Welcome

The Spanish Infanta Eulalia and party disembarked at Jersey City after a brief quarantine. Receiving ceremonies included salutes from warships and forts, a band, and a transfer to the Infanta Isabel. Henderson Shooting At Hart and Boyd Sparks Local Offense

Dr C S Boyd shot at Geo P Hart near Crow and Marston's shop in Henderson North Carolina. Hart fled and surrendered after being pursued by police. both men pled guilty to carrying concealed weapons and were bound over to the Superior Court. The affray charge was dropped against Hart. Boyd's conduct cited as provoked by alleged mistreatment. Hart is connected with mine papers and a troubled past in Rocky Mount.
