First Brick Laying For Morganton Deaf Institute
In Morganton North Carolina May 16 the white deaf mutes school construction began with 250 attendees and a short program led by Judge Bynum Rev Marion and State Senator Avery. A deaf mute girl and boy laid the first brick as the project aims to educate and enable self support in a new Morganton building. The event notes the Raleigh school for the deaf and blind founded in 1845 and lists leaders and attendees from Shelby and Richmond County. Delegates to the State Democratic Convention will meet May 21 at various venues to select committee members and delegates to the national convention in Chicago.
