Tymon Purdie Lynched After Murder Evidence Declares Guilt
A mob of about 100 masked men lynched Tymon Purdie in Exizanetatown North Carolina after a coroner’s jury found the evidence against him complete for the murder of Edward Cain at W C Dunham’s barn last Thursday night. Cain’s throat was cut and Purdie’s gear, including bloody shoes and a coat sleeve, linked him to the crime. The body was hung from a pine limb near a ferry. A second account notes the same verdict and adds that Purdie’s lynching followed a jury finding death by mob action, with about 150 men taking part in Extrapetutown. The episode sparks concern among the local Black community.
