Big Cotton Fire Destroys Platform Near Piltcotoa Mills

A major cotton fire occurred yesterday at 4 15 pm on the west side cotton platform of the Seaboard Air Line yards near Pil tcotoa mills. About 400 of roughly 550 bales were burned, with losses estimated up to 8000 dollars. Fire crews fought the blaze through the wind, saving remaining bales and a railway office building. Most of the long staple cotton from South Carolina was burned.

Agricultural depression probe pressed by senatorial panels

Washington March 29. The senate directed the agriculture and forestry committee to thoroughly investigate U S farm conditions and remedies. Subcommittees will probe cotton and other staples, with McGeorge Bate and Pector on cotton and Peffer Roach Wassburn on wheat oats meat etc.

Latimer Captured After Narrow Flight From Pursuers

Jerome Michigan March 29 A man entered a county store at 9 last night asked for boots. A bystander whispered That is Latimer. The clerk alerted the proprietor. Latimer, who had murdered George Haight, was pursued and finally captured after buying a cheap pair of boots socks and mittens. He walked back to the village with his captors. A $5 gold piece was handed to a clerk. Latimer wore a striped shirt and prison trousers.
