Frick Shot in Carnegie War as Assassin Is Captured

Henry C. Frick, head of Carnegie Steel, was shot in his private office on Fifth Avenue by a Russian-born, New York compositor named Alexander Berkman. Frick survived initial wounds, with bullets to the neck and ear and knife injuries, while Berkman was arrested after a dramatic flight to the elevator. Police and doctors attended Frick. Berkman claimed anarchist motive and showed dynamite cartridges. Reports noted intensified security and ongoing inquiries into related threats and poison allegations at the Frick household.

Railroad Conference Tightens Interchange Rules

A Baltimore telegram reports railroad executives led by Foster and Carpenter in Baltimore to supervise traffic contracts and rates for interchanging business among Richmond & Danville, Seaboard Air-Line, Atlantic Coast Line, and associated lines.
