The Wea ver Field convention in Dana on July 4 opened with despatches affirming Kyle’s candidacy, a quorum shortage, and a glee club. The platform committee proposed two ballots, then a blend of high stakes debate over nominating Weaver, Kyle, Fields, or Vanwick, with a rousing preamble favoring rail, telegraph, and land reform. The crowd roared as Branch read the platform, Georgia's faction led cheers, and Kyle refused nomination amid fevered demonstrations.
