Mrs Rebecca Brown widow of John Brown and grandmother of Capt John G Rankin and R B Rankin of Wilmington died at N H Sprunt home. Born October 25 1788 she was 103 years 2 months 20 days old and believed to be the state’s oldest authenticated person. Her maiden name was Rebecca Swiin born in Charleston. She married first a US Navy lieutenant Peters and then John Brown of Smithville. The last marriage occurred in Wilmington at Capt McIlhenny’s residence.
