At the January 1892 meeting the County Alliance calls on congressional reps to pass laws making National Banks subject to state usury and interest laws. The measure argues banks escape state control and seeks united effort to curtail bank oppression, urging favorable papers to copy.

Died in City Irvin Pool Civil War Veteran

Irvin Pool died at St. John's Hospital in this city on Wednesday at nearly 18 years of age a former member of Co D 31st North Carolina Regiment. He enlisted under Captain Langdon C Manly in the Civil War and was praised as a brave soldier. His remains were buried at the family graveyard 13 miles northeast of Raleigh, with veterans in attendance.

Family tragedy and ferry accident in North Carolina

A family in Ladford near Roanoke and Southern Railroad is dying from pneumonia with the mother dead days earlier and another child failing. The Ferryman at Shore's ferry on the Yadkin River suffered broken arms and injuries when the ferry trolley wire broke during an attempt to save a loaded boat and team. Also an advertisement notes North Carolina ham at Carroll & Bailey for 12 cents per pound.

Dr and Mrs W S Black celebrated their twenty fifth anniversary with about sixty guests and a reading of an original poem by an absent friend. The Guthries Mr and Mrs William A Guthrie also marked a silver wedding with cheers from friends including Albert Kramer and R E Carr and a guest recalling the couple’s marriage twenty five years ago.

Health and prosperity praised, Rev C Whitaker to lead Shere church again, Bill Nye and A P Burbank to lecture, local militia plans form, and M P Corwrence reappoints Whitaker.

Dom Pedro's Funeral Passes Through Spain with Royal Honors

London reports royal honors for Dom Pedro ex-Emperor of Brazil as his funeral train travels through Spain. Soldiers line stations and present arms while drums play a muffled funeral march. Stations are draped in mourning and locals gather with badges as the train passes.

First Wood Pulp from Falls of Neuse Mills

Yesterday J N Holding delivered pulp specimens from the Falls of Neuse Mills to the Chronicle office. The sample pulp is very white and far superior to local mill pulp. The plant capacity is three tons daily with native wood and superb water power. The mill’s equipment is excellent and the entire plant is in fine shape. Falls of Neuse is praised for scenery and May laurel bloom.

Rebels Again Defeated in Pekin Dispatch

From Pekin advices report the rebels defeated once more. The dispatch says the Emperor is studying English and that the Council of State opposed the plan but was overruled by the dowager Empress.
