Other news reports include a double shooting at Roaring River injuring the Duckworth brothers, a claimed plot against H C Frick denied by police, cotton export figures for July 1892, a warehouse fire at Chase and Co. in New York, stock market nerves over silver, a Bradford worsted mill failure, a jail suicide in Monticello Georgia, the rescued crew of a lost bark at Bremerhaven, a Washington state Republican convention slate, and a possible Edison works collapse in New Jersey with casualties.
Lizzie A. Borden was arraigned in Fall River district court on charges of homicide in the deaths of her father and stepmother. Judge Blaisdell set no bail, with a continuance until August 22. The crowded courtroom saw her plead not guilty, with witnesses including Mr. Morse and Bridget Sullivan.
Despatches from Zanzibar report Roumaliza leading a growing Arab revolt from Tanganyika to Stanley Falls. Rachid, Tippoo Tibat’s nephew, calls for rebellion and Arab and native allies against white rule. A clash left whites dead and Arabs control Stanley Falls.
