The wave of incendiarism reaches Henrietta at 3 am causing widespread destruction. A boarding house near the square ignites and the south side of the square, once a principal part of the town, is lost with estimated damages around 200000 dollars. Cincinnati topped St Louis 8 to 6 after George Smith’s three base hit. Brooklyn crushed Baltimore 13 to 0 as Hart pitched a perfect game. Cleveland and Chicago went 12 innings for a 6 to 3 Cleveland win. New York edged Boston 4 to 3 with pitching by Rosie and Nichols, and costly errors by the Mets.
The Granville county Democratic convention is set for Oxford on May 14 with primaries on May 7. The Dallas Alliance endorses a third party, with leaders J. F. Long and Jonas Pasour, both Republicans, but the party aims mainly to win some Western and Southern states. Governor Thomas M. Holt is the sole openly declared candidate. Mitchell county voters decide not to send delegates to the State convention, recommending W H Bower for National convention delegate and pledging to nominate a strong Democrat for all county offices. adjourned county convention scheduled for Bakeraville May 10.
