Tilden Estate Divided and Public Library Fund Created
Heirs and executors at the Tilden house on Gramercy Park completed a three day division and final settlement. The estate valued around 5.9 million dollars was split into twelve shares, six going to nephews and nieces of Samuel Tilden and six to the Tilden trust for a public library after paying 1 million to Mrs. William A. Hazard and setting aside 0.5 million for executors contingencies. The Hazard descendant relinquished her claim to take one million for a library, with court decisions pending on other bequests.
