State flowers chosen by early states
The drive to designate a state flower began in 1880 in New York where children picked the goldenrod and later the rose. Oklahoma acted first in January 1803 choosing mistletoe for display at the Chicago World Fair, followed a month later by Minnesota selecting the lady slipper moccasin flower.
