Early Spring Bulbs and Leaf Mold Tips for Gardeners

Plant spring bulbs in September for best root growth. Narcissus should be planted six inches deep, others two to three inches. Oak leaves create acidic mold good for azaleas and rhododendrons, while other leaves yield alkaline mold for vegetables. Naturalize Snowdrops and Scillas in lawns where mowing is not needed early. Use well drained soil lightened with sand and complete plant food.

The guide advises planning for alternatives to tulips due to bulb shortages. It notes nar cissus and daffodils bloom timing, suggests Polyantha Primroses as ground cover, and gives planting depths for nar cissus, September planting tips, and lawn weed control with copper sulfate. It also covers dividing perennials, preparing soil, and feeding chrysanthemums and other perennials.
