Critical need for Joliet district school repairs
Joliet Grade School District 86 faces widespread deterioration as a 20 cent building tax rate and county tax collection failures leave maintenance underfunded. Enrollment rose from 5,000 to 10,750 while facilities expanded from 17 to 27 schools, prompting a request to voters for a 5 cent building fund increase and a 21 cent operational tax rise.

Meyer To Study NE Water Plan In Early November
Joliet planner Jay Meyer will meet with Northeast Illinois Planning Commission members the first week of November to review a six county water supply and sewer program. The group plans a large scale Lake Michigan based water distribution and sewage treatment system for Cook Will Lake DuPage Kane and McHenry counties. The project, guided by hydrologist Jack Schaeffer, won’t be released until December but details leaked to the Chicago Daily News. A separate note cites a possible multi million dollar filtration plant and pipeline from the Kankakee River for Joliet Lockport industry, though that item remains exploratory.
