Maxwell Fired as Pilcher Park Caretaker Sparks Protest
James Maxwell, longtime caretaker of Pilcher Arboretum, was dismissed by Joliet Park Board with notice to vacate by November 1. The move drew protests from Joliet residents and out-of-state campers, who cited his thirteen years of courteous, efficient service and support from notable locals including Senator Richard J. Barr and Dr. L. A. Stansbury.
