Woman earns Joliet first GI Bill pilot license
Mrs. Don Doubleday, a former navy nurse, becomes the Joliet area’s first woman to complete flight training and receive a private pilot’s license under the GI bill. She and her navy veteran husband began lessons at Nelson-Wagner Flying school at Joliet Municipal airport. he finished the course days earlier as co-owner Chuck Nelson assists with the license application.
