The County Board passed its budget largely as proposed, urging taxpayers to push for simplification and consolidation of taxing and governing bodies. The editorial cautions that current government forms require funding to operate, and calls for constructive reform toward an economical, up to date government.
Joliet Catholic High football, undefeated this season, travels to Aurora to face Marmion in a key weekend contest. Marmion, once Fox Valley High School, fields a strong scoring unit. Coach Carroll focuses on tightening the team for the Sunday matchup.
In The Spectator a list of six names appears offering one or two Rialto tickets or cash prizes. Winners may claim free tickets for upcoming performances starting Sunday. Rialto week showings include Lady for A Day with May Robson and others Sunday through Tuesday, and Night Flight with John Barrymore and Clark Gable Wednesday through Saturday.

Frank J. Monahan Joliet water superintendent, 61, died at St. James hospital Pontiac from internal hemorrhages after a Wednesday crash near Pontiac. His brother Dave was injured. steering rod failure suspected. Monahan had recently been Joliet water chief and was praised by Commissioner Whalen. He is survived by sister and two brothers with funeral plans incomplete.
