Retail Merchants Form Council To Administer Code

Retail merchants will meet Monday evening December 4 to choose representatives to form a retail trade council to administer the trade code in Joliet. The council is required by the NRA in towns over 2,500 population. Seven types of business are included clothiers and furnishers dry goods furniture hardware limited price variety stores mail order concerns music stores and shoe stores. Food milk tobacco and drug stores are not bound by this code. The meeting will be at the Louis Joliet Hotel with Mel Gray in charge. Anyone in the specified retail business is invited to attend.

Four Year Old Dies After Boiler Water Burns

Clara Zilma Kovacick aged four fell into a tub of scalding water on Arthur Avenue while playing with her dog. She suffered second degree burns and toxemia, died at 2 30 p.m. The incident occurred after her family had recently celebrated a civil works job. Funeral arrangements pending coroner's inquest.

Christmas Rush Boosted by NRA

The NRA will boost Joliet merchants Christmas sales over three years, Dun and Bradstreet predicts. Increased employment and higher wages from NRA provisions will enlarge the buying group by millions, and cold weather has pushed retail volume to the highest since last August.
