Italian Liberator crew earns Distinguished Unit Badge in Austria mission
8/Sgt John R Barelio of Chicago street and the Liberator group in the 15th Army Air Force earned the Distinguished Unit Badge for a Steyr Austria attack. Despite 40 percent of maintenance, they repelled 75 German fighters, damaged the Daimler Puch plant, and destroyed multiple enemy aircraft while securing the Stayt Walzlagerwerke blow.
