Tech. Sgt. Paul Lewis Recalls Polesti Raid Home on Furlough
Tech. Sgt. Paul Lewis, returning home on furlough after 25 missions over occupied Europe, recalls perilous raids on Polesti in a B-24 named Touch O' Texas. His crew survived repeated near misses with engines shot away and fuel tanks damaged as they repeatedly stayed under fire to return to England. Pfc. Arthur Ramsay, returning from 20 months in the South Pacific, tells his mother Frances Ramsay that she need not worry, after taking part in three major battles. He describes two months of grueling combat to establish a beachhead and notes relief and sleep now back home.
