Interlake Seeks Navy Site For Education And Expansion

Superintendent William C. French said the site is needed for basic education and skills courses. Grant threatened to cut sewer and water lines to any buyer. Interlake Industries, operator of the sewage lift station, said it planned to buy the area when the Navy moved out. Ball Bros. wants to expand in Rockdale with 125 current workers. The Navy yard facilities would be continued on Page 7.

CSF Gets 900000 U S Loan For Library

The College of St. Francis approved for a federal loan of 900000 by the Office of Health Education and Welfare. A three story library will rise on the south side of Taylor Street east of the new residential hall, at an estimated total cost of 1240189. The loan enables construction bids to proceed.

Council Urges Kerner Hold Action On Salt Creek Dredging

After a Tuesday night discussion the Joliet council asked City Manager Wayne Marsh to write Gov. Kerner requesting a representative meet with city leaders before any Salt Creek dredging moves. The measure would deepen and widen the creek to move water faster, possibly relieving Cook and DuPage counties but risking flood threats to Will County communities. Salt Creek feeds the Des Plaines River and officials warned increasing flow could endanger the entire valley.
