Ruby Street Bridge Opening Promises City Celebration
After two years of work the new Ruby street bridge opens Saturday at 10 AM with a ribbon cutting by Marybeth King daughter of Northwest Side Civic Association president Edward H. King. The event includes a 9:30 AM parade from Central school grounds with city officials engineers and multiple school bands, led by Capt. Ralph Maloney.

Unconscious Youth After Train Crash Near New Lenox
George Leavitt twenty from Steger remains unconscious after a collision with a northbound Wabash train at a private Brisbane crossing near New Lenox. Charles Liberty nineteen of Spencer died instantly. The car stalled on the crossing as the train, about sixty miles per hour, struck it. Both youths had been chopping thistles on Ray Palmer’s farm and were en route to work when the crash occurred. Local doctors say recovery is uncertain.

Mrs Robt Cronin Celebrates 89th Birthday in Joliet
Mrs Robert Cronin, longtime Joliet resident, marked her 89th birthday Tuesday at her daughter Mrs John Hurley’s home 909 North Raynor Avenue. It also began her 71st year of residence in the city. Confined since last August, she received visits from friends and relatives all day. She is the widow of Robert Cronin and mother of the late John R. Cronin, former Joliet mayor, and has one daughter, three grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Daring rescue at Western quarry saves drowning man
Gene Milcher dived fifteen feet to reach Frank Gale who cramped and sank while swimming at the north bank. Gale was revived after ten minutes of artificial respiration by Louis Kocholka. an inhalator squad arrived but not needed. Swimming there is prohibited by officials, yet youths ignore the warning.
