Joliet public school maintenance crews wage Dutch elm disease battle this summer. Elmer E. Geissler, buildings and grounds superintendent, says about 50 trees at 21 school sites are infected and three more properties will be checked. Thirty trees have already been removed this year to halt spread. Most trees slated for destruction are in parkways between sidewalk and street to protect remaining trees.
