Local youths train for the Spectator Golden Gloves event to be staged at Catholic High in the latter part of the month. Officials expect more than 200 entrants and 15 to 20 bouts over three nights, with tickets available at the Spectator office, 401 You.
The Woman's Democratic Organization of Will County hosts a card party at Rialto cafe on Wednesday January 30 to benefit Americanization. Games and prizes will be played. Ruth man will discuss Naturalization per Roosevelt's policy. Admission is twenty five cents with A Berkovitz chairing and Mrs. Chizmarik assisting. Mrs. Iland heads the county group.
Joliet high school light and heavyweight basketball teams travel to Elgin tomorrow night to resume Big Six play. Local fans expect a strong showing for Millsmen after two recent victories, though Elgin is regarded as one of the season’s strongest foes.
The Y M C A will host its annual New Year open house and reception Friday evening in the Y building rather than January 1. The public is invited to attend. A program of basketball gymnastics handball and swimming is planned ending with Joe E Brown's Elmer the Great in the main gym.
Chicago forecaster P. Day predicts a mild second day for 1935 with temperatures rising above 40. He says chores will remain mild today and tomorrow, with a chance of sandier or colder weather tomorrow night.
