Joliet Primary Election Set With Low Voter Turnout Expected
The Joliet primary election Tuesday will decide 2 mayoral candidates 12 councilmen and five for police magistrate in 37 districts polls open 6 am to 6 pm. Mayor James P. Hennessy pursues re election against Ned Grabawoy. Incumbents John R. Barney Edward J. Daniel and Martin J. Jackson face several challengers. Absentee ballots deadline in person Saturday noon and by mail today at 5 pm. City budget estimates place printing and rental costs near 8000 with 32 districts active. Voters need 30 days in district and one year in city.

Forest Park budget adds police staffing and sewer project
Joliet city council revised the 1959 appropriation ordinance to about 4.4 million dollars, 60000 less than 1958. About 100000 was added for police hires, with two new officers next month and seven by June 1, plus 20000 for Forest Park sewer and water, shifting funds from the northwest sewer project. Mayor Hennessy urged matching aid to Forest Park, and Chief Trizna will present police staffing changes including an assistant chief.

Engineers honor 3 Joliet students at scholars dinner
Joliet chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers honored three math and science students during a Merichka's restaurant dinner marking a week of events. Recipients were Joseph J. Petrovic a Joliet Junior College student Janet Sifferd a Joliet Township High School senior and George Hopkins a Joliet Catholic High School senior. A Duncan Smith illustrated talk on Missile Propellants and a Mackinac Straits bridge construction movie were presented. Mayors and city officials attended with Joliet Junior College Engineers' Club members.
