More than 16 000 persons attended the Prosperity Sales Campaign drawing on Wednesday afternoon on Benton street and at Central school grounds where a thousand dollars was awarded to fifty winners. Winners included Emma E Bartlett Joan Heggie E L Puhl and several others with prizes of 250 100 50 and 25 dollars. The event drew crowds comparable to President Hoover's visit to the city.
Miss Ruth Woodward was voted Miss St Francis Academy in a school week popularity contest at Saint Francis Academy. She will be crowned at a Tea Dance this afternoon in the school gymnasium and will serve as hostess in the Junior Department tomorrow at the Boston Store on the second floor. Other participants included Eugenia Austin Mary Jane Garden Mary Frances Kaffer Genevieve Stonich Mary Dwyer Angela Ulasich and Florence Stella.
An unidentified 55 year old man was pulled from the river near Ruby Street Bridge after pedestrians saw him struggle. He was treated by Lieutenant Arthur Dillon and Fireman Lou Sutton. despite pulmotor aid and hospital care he remained unconscious late last night. Police sought witnesses who may have seen him enter the water. He wore grey trousers overalls a dark shirt black shoes and a brown cap. Further identification was not found in his pockets and his origin is unknown.
