Mass firing at arms plant reversed as workers return
About 300 laborers dismissed last week by Sanderson and Porter were back at work after a conference with foremen and superintendents. Tony Augustino of the Will County Laborers' Union said many firings were unjust. Foremen who named their worst men were dismissed, and an agreement was reached. A wage scale renegotiation was planned with Joseph Keenan of the Federal Department of Labor to prevent a repeat mass layoff. Foremen currently earn $1.00 hourly, with laborers at 95 cents and overtime at time and a half.
