A Joliet observer notes ongoing economic strain across industries including autos and mills. Sit down strikes at Standard Wall Paper and worker discontent at another paper mill threaten order, with both labor and capital fearing losses and unrest. The piece argues for collective bargaining and balanced policy.
C H Peterson was elected president of the Joliet Ad Club at a meeting in the Louis Joliet hotel. Other officers include vice president Edward Relyea treasurer Willard Reed and secretary Arthur Liebermann. Directors are Thomas Cheadle Stanley Kohn Ayres Ricker George Mahoney and Ben Neumark.
Readable notes indicate Cook county area including Chicago Heights may join Will county if Springfield passes new laws. Local leaders favor separation to reduce Cook county ties but legal barriers require a majority in affected counties. Proposals seek amending county act to allow a majority vote within affected townships for annexation.
A special midnight show titled May be Its Love featuring Ross Alexander will be held at the Mode Saturday to benefit the Joliet Community Chest fund. Total receipts go to the chest organization as the theater management states. The feature is a first run production.
Walgreens announces a store wide Check Your Needs Sale starting at 6 o'clock tonight and running through Saturday. Manager Edward Klocke notes hundreds of bargains, including a Pepsodent special: a regular fifty cent bottle for thirty nine cents, with an extra bottle for one more penny. The sale is described as one of the finest ever arranged by Walgreens.
