Commuter Fare Hike Set for January on GM&O and Santa Fe Lines

Illinois Commerce commission granted a 20 percent fare increase for Joliet and Lockport riders on the GM&O and Santa Fe routes into Chicago starting Jan. 1. About 225 daily commuters from Joliet Lemont Willow Springs Summit face higher costs. six Santa Fe luxury riders from Joliet would also be affected if 25 ride tickets are kept. A hearing is scheduled with a suspension until April 30.

Joliet area master plan outlines 20 year growth and annexation

Planning consultants Ladislas Se goe and Associates present a Joliet master plan projecting population growth from about 95 000 to 125 000 by 1980 and potentially 135 000 under favorable conditions. Joliet Considers Tightening Fire Department Outside Limits Rules

Acting City Manager Jack Rohlf proposes eleventh hour amendments to Joliet ordinance governing fire department apparatus and personnel outside city limits. Changes would ban calls to unincorporated areas from Jan 1 with exceptions for public or tax supported institutions and allow aid to incorporated areas on request. Priority to city fires if simultaneous.
