Heat Wave Continues in Joliet Area Slowly Cooling Slips
A prolonged hot spell kept Joliet in the throes of heat with 89 degree readings at Brandon and 94 on Monday while Sunday and Tuesday posted 90. Merchants reported a boom for cooling goods as power use hit a record 4.2 million kilowatts and the city pumped about 94 million gallons daily. Water supply and wells were closely watched as efforts to restore the Ottawa Street well aimed to relieve pressure.
