Joliet City Election Sees Heavy Absentee Ballot Push

In Joliet the city election forecast shows about 20 000 voters likely to cast ballots with many absentees. Incumbent Mayor James P Hennessy faces Ned Grabavoy as labor support solidifies for the incumbent. Council candidates include John R Barney Edward J Daniel , J Walter Lowrey Maurice Berlinsky, E E Jim Garrison and Anton J Grohar with Martin Jackson challenging for police magistrate. Voter eligibility requires 21 years, district residence 30 days, Will county 90 days, Illinois one year.

City of Joliet officials plan a Civil Defense drill with schools to test the warning system for emergencies such as flood fire explosion or tornado and for national emergencies per director James Lavely.

Election Returns To Be Displayed In City Hall

Election returns will be posted Tuesday night in the city council chambers at city hall. First results may appear about 6 30 p m with precinct and total candidate votes shown for observers. The public is invited and the press and radio will have a separate area to cover the returns.
