Joliet Township Voters Face Key Races In April Elections

Joliet township voters go to the polls next Tuesday for the township and park district races with about 16 000 votes expected across 74 precincts. A highway commissioner contest pairs incumbent Emmett McGuire with Republican Anthony Lilek. The assistant supervisor race features veteran candidates Joseph Zalar and John T. Vavrek with others seeking reelection.

Mayor Opposes Larkin Road Four Lane Plan

Mayor James P. Hennessy yesterday opposed federal and state plans to widen Larkin Road to four lanes. He warned heavy trucks would raise hazards in a residential area with 2,500 plus children in nearby schools and planned church and school sites. Council members urged caution and considered alternate routing.
