Red Cross chapters across Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming begin a campaign to collect 150 tons of used clothing for ten million people trapped in Belgium and occupied France. Hoover’s Commission for Relief requests 5,000 tons to prevent freezing this winter. Local chapter officers will advise on collection centers and donations as supplies head to Denver for the National Western Stock Show and to government depots.
Conrado Andrada, nephew of Alfredo Lucero and son-in-law of Jose N. Martinez, died in Tucumcari on the 19th from typhoid fever. He was well liked, leaves a wife and one child, and is mourned by many relatives and friends.
Mr B R Cool of Salano died after a week long illness at Plumlee Hospital from pneumonia and pleurisy. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Christian Church in Rey with the W O W aiding. LeRoy Hall departs for State Military training this week after a party at Rev G B Hall’s home. Roy Trading Co plans a large bean house, among several local improvements by the firm.
Mrs Leo Wagner is reported quite sick with typhoid at Dr Self's Sanitarium. Leo's mother, Mrs Peter Wagner, is here helping care for her and assist during illness.
Miss Ines Hall departed Sunday for Sulphur Oklahoma where she will serve as teacher at the State School for Deaf and Dumb. This marks Miss Hall's sixth year as an instructor at the school.
C Li joined Justice H Mitchell and families for a Sunday gathering at the Barkey Mitchell residence near Dawson.
Multiple births reported in Roy region with several baby girls born to families including Johnson Meffert Allen and Mitchell, all described as well and welcome additions. Miss Mita Hornbaker of Harmony Lodge attended a meeting with Mrs. Irvin Ogden and Mrs. Ethel Harper who received credentials for the Rebekah Assembly in Albuquerque October 8 and 9. Rev J M Wilson from Clayton becomes Roy circuit Methodist minister with first sermon October 6. Roy High School basketball defeated town team 16 to 4 at the school grounds.
A gathering at the J Floersheim home East town Thursday night honored Lester Ploersheim Roy Hall and Cravens Plumlee who left the next day for the State University to join the Students Training Corps at Albuquerque Madames Ploersheim Hall and Plumlee hosted the event and provided refreshments and music for the assembled friends wishing the men Godspeed in their new assignment
Jess Wade purchased the Breshears house from his farm and moved it into town to fix up as a home. The tiny structure is described as a good little house, though Wade learned building restrictions only after obtaining the house ahead of a building permit.
Our Heroes Mr and Mrs Frank Roy received the sad news Monday that their nephew Lieut Joseph L McMinimy was killed in action on the western front in France on July 19 He had been reported missing and the telegram from the Government confirmed the fatal outcome McMinimy 22 a Fort Scott Kansas High School graduate and brother of Karl McMinimy formerly with Roy Trading Company now in France in the Quarter Master Corps The brothers went to France at different dates but had been together prior to the engagement in which the older brother was killed
The dedication of the Catholic Church Service Flag in Roy will be a fete day with special services led by Fr. Felix Vachon O. Mo P resident Priest. Scheduled for Sunday September 29 at 2 30 PM the flag bears 25 stars with three more to be added by that date. Blessing prayers sermons and hymns in Spanish and English will mark the program inviting all.
C L Wensell was summoned to Raton Monday on Food Administration business and returned Tuesday. He is adjusting to duties involving questionnaires for registrants. The piece reflects on past drafts and views current efforts as a continuation of wartime work.
