Sad news comes from Roy of the death of Mrs R Pae at 10 15 this morning at her home. She recently wed Mr Shaya. survivors include husband mother and two brothers. No funeral plans yet but burial likely at East Vaughn. A full obituary to follow next week. The Spanish American era deeply sympathizes with the family.
The King Berea team played a baseball game on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Royes won as McDaniel’s pitching faltered, scoring six runs in the fifth. Mosquero held opposition to a few later, with Roy adding another run before rain halted play. A chili dinner by the Base-Ball Boys was advertised for Saturday at the Ideal Bakery. Miss Etna Floersheim, after exams in Springer, earned 92 percent and advances to the 11th grade.
News from Roy reports the Chautauqua will visit June 14 through 18 with a strong committee meeting in May to prepare. Season tickets go on sale June 1 priced at 2.75 for adults and 3.65 for children for the complete program. organizers aim to sell 800 tickets and will publish program outlines next week.
The note reports daily rain across the mesa near Roy for over a week, with two to three inches recent, marking better crop prospects. Wheat damaged by wind or drought remains, but farmers anticipate a large corn or forage crop and the biggest wheat harvest the mesa has seen.
Shaya and Anderson homes progress appears steady with ongoing activity. J B Busey conducted a business trip to Las Vegas this week while Nels Benson remains occupied with a heavy carpenter workload and constant job commitments.
Governor M C Mechem designates May 30 1921 as Memorial Day in New Mexico urging citizens to honor soldiers in all wars from Civil War to World War I. The proclamation invokes Lincoln’s Gettysburg address and calls for dedication to the unfinished work of freedom and government by the people for the people. Signed by Secretary Manuel Martinez and sealed by state.
The seventh and eighth grade pupils performed a short but polished play before a sizable audience despite rain. Dr. Gibbs of the school Board awarded the eighth grade diplomas and urged graduates to plan for the fall work of the New Board.
Mrs O'Brien mother of Mrs Earl McMinimy is visiting the McMinimy home this week accompanied by her niece Mary Malone. She lives in Homing Oklahoma and this is her first trip to the Mesa, where she is pleased with the town and the whole Mesa.
Street Commissioner R C Grunig again works on city streets while Mrs Ed Foley of East Vaughn visits Roy to assist her daughter Mrs R P Shaya who is seriously ill at home in the east part of town.
Contractor Truesdale finishes roofing at the Shaya residence after expedited work. The project, previously scheduled for completion next week, is now declared ready with the roof secure and weatherproof.
The Public Schools closed a nine months session last Friday and will take a three months vacation before work resumes in the new building. The school faced handicap due to unfinished facilities and store buildings unable to provide accommodations. A new building is expected by September 16 and ready for opening. Prof. Gerhart, in charge last five months, will likely return as High School teacher and possibly principal. He is regarded as a live wire and hoped to return to Roy.
Decoration Day events outlined for May 30 include a 19:30 a.m. Roy Band concert on Main Street, a 10 a.m. parade to Roy Cemetery, graveside honors by the American Legion, addresses, and a post-ceremony band concert. Afternoon baseball Roy versus Dawson followed by the film The Right to Happiness at the theater.
Patrons protest the absence of Eighth Grade Commencement Exercises in Roy Public Schools a long standing rite since 1910. They argue the pupils deserve recognition, note the low cost, and urge officials to ensure future graduations both eighth grade and high school are honored. The letter requests accountability without assigning blame, and expresses support to guarantee these exercises next year.
Proclamation by Fred G. Brown mayor of Roy declares Monday May 50th a legal holiday to honor veterans. Citizens urged to close business where possible and join grave decoration by the American Legion and Rey Band.
Russell and Nix family ties crown a wedding in Roy as Wolcott L Russell and the daughter of Mr and Mrs N Nix of Rosebud begin a life together after meeting at a local social. Russell, raised in Roy, served in the war and rises as bookkeeper and assistant manager of Mesa Co Operative Co while the couple plans their future in Roy. The notice notes friends extend congratulations and a Baptist Sunday School class hosted a social at Weatherill home with routine business and choir practice followed by lunch.
The Ladies of the O E S Club enjoyed a delightful afternoon at Mrs Richard Kilmurray home with guests Mrs Boyd of Mills and a sister from Syracuse New York. Delicious refreshments were served and a pleasant time was shared. Dr Murdoch will be in Roydune Sth to 11th for dental troubles.
Rev J H Messer presiding will conduct quarterly conference in Rew Monday evening the 180th at 3 o clock.
The Roy baseball team faces the strong Dawson team on Decoration Day at 2 PM. The game promises keen competition and all are invited to attend.
