Roy Public Schools hold third annual commencement

The Roy public schools staged their third annual commencement on May 1 at the Christian Church. Ten eighth graders and three ninth graders received diplomas amid an all star program featuring Miss Dollie Farmer, Leo Rychlewski, and students like Archie Davis and Hazel Sheltren. State Superintendent Alvan N White attended and awarded diplomas, praising Mora County schools. A class play the next night raised funds for expenses.

New School Board Reorganizes and Expands Teaching Staff

The new School Board met Tuesday to review last year’s business and install members Dr. M. D. Gibbs retired. Frank Roy and J. Floersheim assumed duties, with Floersheim as President and O. H. Kerns re-elected Clerk. Teaching staff increased salaries for veterans. Miss Roy named Spanish teacher. Plan to enlarge the building to be voted soon after legal review.

Good Roads Meeting Called by Roy Committee

The Good Roads Committee of Roy invites men and women to a May 9 meeting at the 1.C.C.F. Hall to plan a road from Tucumcari to connect with the Scenic Highway at Springer via Roy. A Red River bridge near Tucumari is the first need, then a cheaper continuing route. The aim is to attract coast auto traffic through the town.

Editor's Experience at Mora Court

The Spanish American editor reports returning from Mora after being tried for libel found guilty with six to nine months in prison and a $500 fine plus costs for an article in the January 81st SA. He says attorneys will seek Supreme Court relief and notes strong local support and willingness to face punishment in pursuit of reform.

Wm G Johnson is duly installed as postmaster of Roy P O with dignity. Assistant Patterson from near Mills helps him learn the job. Patterson has many years of post office experience. Edgar Floersheim becomes the new clerk and begins familiarizing with duties.
