Santa Fe Fruit Crop Ruined by April Freeze
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports an April freeze killed all early fruit varieties in the valley. Smudge fires failed as shifting winds sent heat away from orchards. Temperatures dropped to about 25.9 degrees, destroying peaches, cherries, apples, pears, and plums while late varieties may remain unhurt. Financial losses are estimated at fifteen to twenty thousand dollars.
