Roy to Have New Modern Hotel

Dr. Self a Roy businessman plans a rock and concrete two story hotel with basement on the former Southwestern site. The 85 by 65 foot building includes dining room office kitchen parlor and 25 bedrooms with sleeping rooms on the upper floor. Construction with basement and foundation due to be completed soon.

Fort Dodge Banker M R Wane Visits Roy Area

CO R Wane of Fort Dodge Town visits friends in and near Roy this week. He is son of WS Wane, an early Mesa settler. Elder Wane died at the Turmeric city in 1914 and C R Wane now owns that land. Report says he plans moving to Roy to open a business there.

Jenkins Death and Local News From Mills District

Mrs. S H Jenkins of Port Smith Arkansas sends word that Mr. Jenkins died November 15 after four months of illness including stomach trouble and high blood pressure. He was a longtime local barber who later moved for his wife's health. The community offers sympathy to Mrs Jenkins and children. The Mills School moved into a new three room building but remains undersized for growth. A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Parl Case near Mills. E C Smith, former Mills bank cashier, resigned to become Special Deputy Bank Examiner and to reorganize the Grengile Bank in New Mexico, aiming to reopen soon.

Tragedy on Denver Rio Grande Train Near Alamosa

Postoffice inspector Omar Hood saved his life by leaping from a moving Pullman as fire engulfed the car near Alamosa Colorado. Five travelers died in the blaze. Hood and a porter escaped. Hood’s records and personal effects were destroyed. Mrs Floersheim is gravely ill and plans a California trip for relief. The Roy New Mexico office notes a new job press and plans for Mosquero to expand publishing facilities.

Body of Artura Monoya Arrives in U.S. From France

The body of Artura Monoya arrives in the United States from France. Jovearia Montoya received telegram stating his son Attra, who died fighting for his country on November 10 1918, will be buried at Roy Cemetery. The funeral, led by the American Legion and Roy Post, is expected in the early part of the week. Alsingle Roy Roy killed in France and altholmer Cole died in a camp accident, were noted among casualties.

Legion Dance at Mills draws wide support and praise

American Legion boys held a dance at the Adello building on the hill last Saturday night in Mills. The event, with floor space well used and counters moved, accommodated a larger crowd than expected. Citizens and ex servicemen supported the entertainment, with music by Mrs Moersheim Miss Nix and Mr Floersheim. Post Commander Holmes spoke on Legion aims and plans, thanking Mills and donors for piano and building use and for those who donated services.

Raton Doctor Drills Pioneer of Northeast New Mexico Dies

Dr Bills, longtime resident of Raton and pioneer physician in northeast New Mexico, died in Raton last week. A well known Rey resident and active in Odd Fellows and Masons, he homesteaded near Abbott and was familiar to travelers on the road to Springer. His body was laid to rest in Raton Cemetery.

Base Ball Meeting elects 1921 officers and plans upgrades

A Base Ball meeting at the 8. A. Office discussed forming a winning 1921 team with Paxton named Manager and Layell as Secretary Assistant Manager. Milton Floersheim elected Treasurer and Finance Committee chair. Captains to be chosen by players after practice. A new grand stand and suit purchases debated. Admission set at 25 cents. ladies free. Next meeting scheduled at the Spanish American Office.
