A Roy Fourth of July celebration faced heavy rain and mud but drew a good crowd. A barbecue fed the attendees, Roy defeated French Teams 14 to 8 in a daytime ball game, and dances at night were well attended though fireworks were largely exhausted.
The Roy ball team won decisively against the French squad on Saturday 1438, then lost 14-10 in a Sunday rematch after the French hitters rallied and capitalized on early mistakes. Officials praised the French for improved play and both sides showed strong effort.
O H Kerns and family came home Saturday from a vacation visiting friends in Illinois and other places. They report a fine time and seem glad to be home again.
Fixin up The Goodman Mercantile Co installs an office at the rear of the new store with a glass side to admit light from west windows. Book keeper Wolcott Russel plans conveniences for detailed accounting. Cellar cleared. project aims to create a splendid business place. A contract is let for a stone building adjoining the post office for The Palace Bar.
Mrs. A L Collins departed Monday for Maxwell to visit her daughter Mrs Pelphrey and other relatives. She plans an extended stay in Illinois and will be away several months.
Mr Russel cannot preach on the second Sunday and will deliver the sermon on his old date the third Sunday of the month.
After three days of rain Clint Traister leaves for Ute Creek while Johnny Gallagher arrives driving in from Ute Creek. Heavy rain returns in the evening and the town bans the Ute Creek group including Joe Ballard from entering until further notice.
Mrs J Floersheim is recovering from illness and remains largely homebound. Her daughter Mrs Al Hanson assists at the residence while daughter in law Mrs Mel ville Floersheim oversees the home and aims for her recovery.

Jose Inez Turrieta who stole Leandro Archuleta’s black mare last year was arrested in Roy while visiting family. He was returned to the Penitentiary this week by Archuleta and faces closer watch, despite returning to the scene of the crime.
Tuck bought Fred Brown's Maxwell last week and is now part of the local amateur auto driving community in Roy. He faces common rookie misadventures such as getting hung up on the prairie and crank-kick incidents, while gaining popularity with the fair sex.
Cypriano Lujan, a Sanchez merchant and regional pioneer, made a friendly call in town on Monday. He has built multiple successful enterprises and is noted as an early settler in the area.
The Roy base ball team travels to Springer on Sunday for a game against the Springer club. Officials express optimism and hope to win with solid defense and strong batting.
The Victor Class of the Roy Sunday School elected officers last Sunday for the coming term. Irvin Ogden Sr. was re elected President Leora Hall Vice Pres Carlos Branch Secretary and Treasurer and Rev G B Hall teacher. All young people are invited to join and participate as the class plans social activities and discussion based lessons.
Mrs Marie Martin, who arrived two months ago from Yankee Camp and has been farming the claim, was in town Wednesday to attend to her subscription. Her husband remains at Yankee but they hope to move to the claim soon.
A full grown wild doe wandered to John Sehneider’s home on the mesa, allowing him to shelter it with blankets and water it as he cared for it in his barn. The animal later died, leaving the case a mystery as to why it ventured from canyon shelter.
