Crowning ball marks grand coronation celebration in city

The Ladies' Primrose Progressive Circle hosted a grand ball on Insy dth with guests from towns within seventy miles. Alfonso Lucero won the lucky flag contest, funds aiding the public school, and attendees praised the event for its music and refreshments.

Rain Falls Boosts Local Crops Across County

A heavy rain Thursday evening brought over an inch of water to the town and surrounding areas. Corn stands waist high in places and beans are near maturity while wheat harvest faced some disruption from wind and hail at the E B Holmes farm one mile west. Haying has started and prospects for a large gram hay crop look favorable. Overall, crops look healthy compared with other communities.

Celebration Is Big Success Independence Day 1911 Roy NM

Independence Day 1911 celebration in Roy New Mexico drew a large regional crowd. A parade did not form as attendees rushed to the feast featuring roasted steer bread and desserts. The sports program included horse burro and bronco events and a wrestling match, followed by a long dance into the early hours. All committees fulfilled duties and the town’s civic pride was praised.

Huge Battle Flag Displayed Near Town

At the July ith attraction Roy displayed a flag owned by Wm. King who lives east of town. The 18 by 36 flag flew over the Olympia at Manila Bay and King served as a seaman aboard Dewey’s fleet. The relic bears battle marks but is well preserved. King owns many Fleet keepsakes and this one rides in Uncle Sam’s service.

Goodman Mercantile appoints Miss Lillian Griner head millinery

Miss Lillian Griner to lead the Millinery Department at Goodman Mercantile Co about September 1. She will travel east next week to visit Kansas City St Louis and Chicago centers and will purchase a premier line of millinery for New Mexico.

Mike Miller Dead A Prominent Mosquer Resident

Mike Miller, 46, deputy sheriff of Union County and longtime public servant, died July 5 at his Mosquero home from kidney and stomach trouble. He leaves a wife and two children. funeral held July 6 at 2 p.m. in Mosquero with interment in Mosquero Cemetery.

Camp Meeting at La Cinta Canyon Bow

Plans for a basket dinner and church service at La Cinta Canyon on Sunday July 9 near Mrs Felicia Gunn’s ranch six miles from Roy. Attendees should meet at Roy schoolhouse at 8 30 a m with team and lunch baskets. Sunday school will precede dinner and Elder Hunt will lead the services. Teams and wagons welcome for those without transport.

Goodman and Associates Plan Big Store Expansion in Koy

Mr. Goodman and his associates plan to enlarge their store to display and sell this and other lines. A complete modern department store is planned for the near future in Koy.

Frank Heimann of Albert spent the Fourth in Roy and left Wednesday for an extended trip to Springer.
