Roy WaterWorks project features a wind powered 60 foot towered mill at Floersheim well and a 6 000 gallon storage tank with auxiliary gas engine to run the pump. A street tank and pipeline will supply drinking water and household use. Fire protection will be provided by a short hose supply as funds permit.
The community notes that no prairie fires have occurred this winter due to luck but warns such fires could devastate feed stocks buildings and valuable grasslands. It urges extreme care to avoid starts and highlights penalties and damages for causing fires.
Dr. S Alonzo Bright preached to the Methodist congregation of Roy at the Christian Church Monday at 10 30 o clock The Quarterly Conference followed the sermon The circuit work has been reorganized and is progressing nicely The pastor reports an encouraging outlook for the new year in religious work and the Roy community made the Xmas season happy through acts of kindness at the parsonage
The Roy Red Cross auxiliary reports growing activity since 1917 with Mrs J S Ruysel initiating the first campaign. The group, now evolving into a full Roy Chapter under Mountain Division, has 481 members and has donated funds and knitted goods for soldiers, with leadership by Mrs F A Roy and others.
The Roy School District financial statement for the semi annual period ending December 31, 1917 lists balances, receipts from liquor licenses, and expenses from September to December. It notes debts and warrants, and highlights community praise for local official Trujillo. A separate notice describes the New Year rabbit hunt between Liberty and Pleasant View, with official tallies and a post-hunt oyster supper at Home Restaurant, Roy.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Leather man mourn the death of their baby born Sunday who lived only a few hours. The note also mentions subscription reminders, urging payment and threatening to drop nonpaying customers after the week, noting a loss of about 200 dollars to the paper.
The Roy Garage shifts to a cash basis starting January 1 and offers newly printed coupon books to simplify small sales for patrons. Prof. Russell and wife return from El Paso and Albuquerque praising the trip while noting soldier morale and eagerness to move forward. The Roy Union Sunday school class hosted a social at the Russells with Miss Erma Russell as hostess. Walter Ross reports a seven foot eagle, to be mounted as a keepsake. The Red River bridge approach on this side is ready for auto traffic while crews relocate to finish the west side. The Roy post office reports over 250 dollars in Savings and Thrift Stamps sold Monday and high daily sales continue as War Loan support.
Maj. K. S. Snow commander of a battalion of the 24th Infantry who figured in the Houston riot and Miss Gladys Judy of El Paso were married New Years night by Judge Campbell at 524 Hunstock Avenue. Snow had been a San Antonio witness in the Houston court martial and his unit is stationed at Columbus New Mexico. Mrs Judy is a Roy girl, daughter of Mr and Mrs B S Judy. Congratulations extended.
The Public Installation of officers by the Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges was a pleasant fraternal affair. Dr M D Gibbs served as installing officer for the Subordinate lodge as C A Peare G Melville Floershein Vol J E Wildman. secretary Karl Baum. treasurer. and a full corps of appointed officers. Following installation a lunch of potted ham sandwiches coffee and cake was served though stormy weather kept many away.
