A 1918 report on the New Mexico State Penitentiary is praised for modern administration, inmate education, and efforts to reform prisoners into better citizens. The editorial argues current conditions surpass past mistreatment and urges continued support for the state administration unless corruption recurs.
The Embroidery Club met at Mrs F J Sheltren's home on Thursday with all conveyances used to bring members together. The group anticipated a successful session and spread word of their activities to friends.
Time The Present presents Miss Mayme Hern and Miss Grace Collins in Persimmon with Irish servant girl and C A Armor in a play set on an island of the Great Lakes. A Negro servant with fanny streaks appears in the production.
A party of fifty friends serenaded Leo Wagner and his bride at their home on Saturday night. The welcome reflected German American hospitality as they shared a hospitable feast. The bride, newly arrived from the Middle East, was called the cutest in days and praised for adapting to Roy’s culture.
Prof R 8 Trumbull visited Sunday and Monday urging support for the State College Course. Roy is the sole town on the EP and SW line with ambition to host the full course, to be divided to suit smaller communities. Plans for Roy are not yet complete but will be announced when ready.
Last Saturday neighbors hosted a surprise party for Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Scott to celebrate their new home addition near town and the couple’s 15th wedding anniversary. Oysters and lunch baskets fueled a hearty gathering among progressive homesteaders on the mesa.
