The Roy public schools close Friday with the primary room shut, and the intermediate room merged into the advanced room for another month under Prof. Johnson. Teachers Mrs. Romine and Miss Jardee depart to farms, while Miss Jennie returns from near Wagon Mound after schooling. Low attendance prompted the consolidation.
The Roy Embroidery Club gathered at Mrs. F. S. Brown's home on Thursday for its regular business session followed by a lunch. Members, described as the elite of Roy, anticipate these meetings as happy days.
Luis Martinez shot and killed Juan Solano late Saturday night at Gascon Mora county. Martinez said he mistook Solano for a burglar after Solano was seen prowling near his home. Martinez surrendered and faces a preliminary hearing in Mora. The Mora county eighth grade exams were held at the public school with about fifteen students from Roy Mills and Solano schools taking part and praised by Supt Blas Sanchez.
The act allows individuals who previously entered under homestead or desert land laws and later lost or abandoned their claim to benefit from the laws as if the prior entry never occurred. Applicants for a second entry must provide their former entry description and date, with fraud or sale of former entry for more than filing fees excluding. Approved February 2, 1911.
A Des Moines Swastika note urges writing in haste on envelopes to speed mail. Postmasters and clerks race to process the rush, with a railroad engineer urged to pull the train wide open.
The Buble School Convention will meet tomorrow at Mills school house three miles east of Mills for an all day session. Roy Salona Pleasant View and Mills Sunday schools will be well represented. Attendees expect abundant baskets of good eatables. This is the second meeting this year, since they meet every fifth Sunday. The first gathering was in Roy in January and was a very pleasant day.
Judge Roberts sits as cases are disposed of with evident efficiency. Messrs Howlett and Branch return from Mora pleased with the outcomes of the matters they pursued. A full report of court doings will appear in the next issue.
P. P. Branch arrived in Roy from Rock River Wyoming where he and other Roy residents work for a large sheep company at high wages. He was summoned to Mora on court business and left after a brief family visit before returning home.
In a lively local baseball contest the home club defeated the Burro Canyon Tarantulas 13 to 12 Sunday. Joe Walkowiak and Robert Holmes pitched for the winners while Baker Shannon hurled for the Tarantulas with the game marked by many errors on both sides.
Announcement notes the assignment by State Superintendent J E Clark to prepare a course of study in primary methods for Territorial and County Normal schools. The work was completed promptly, accepted without revision, and praised as highly satisfactory by Supt Clark. The Roy community celebrates Mrs Romine’s recognized talent and dedication to children.
The local lodge of the Odd Fellows marked the 92d anniversary with light refreshments and lunch. Members gave speeches and toasts, welcoming four new first degree members Abernathy Wane Kern and W Baum, and all reported a pleasant evening.
H Goodman purchased two fine Jersey cows from F Brown after a month’s work on his ranch. Gus Snyder was in town this week.
