A deal last week saw R P Shaya Co transfer their groceries notions and much dry goods and shoes stock to Frank Lujan and Alberto Branch. The new firm leased the Foster Building and opened with a full line of goods aiming to meet old Shaya customers and attract Roy area shoppers. Lujan, formerly with Lujan and Son and later Sobinoso, and Branch, son of Padio Branch, have strong local roots and ambition to expand the stock, with Shaya moving remaining stock to Duran.

Lon Shifflet Killed In Auto Accident Near Raton
Lon Hardluck Shifflet died in an auto wreck near Raton while returning to Dawson after visiting friends. The crash left another driver severely injured. Shifflet lay dead beside the overturned vehicle. He had lived in Abbott and Dawson, worked for the E P & S W R R, and is survived by a wife and two children. Funeral was in Sweetwater Texas with burial in Sweetwater Cemetery. Mrs Magee of Gaylord Kansas is visiting relatives.

American Legion Plans Grand Ball and Roy Theater Hall
The American Legion Post at Mosquero will host a grand ball tonight drawing many from Roy. Tucumcari Orchestra will provide music. In Roy, Paxton and Floersheim plan a new ground floor community hall and theater leasing the Foster building to seat 400 to 500. The Roy Theatre will still run as a cinema for now. The new venue aims to host political meetings, dances, and regular shows, with an opening minstrel at the Mosquero event next Saturday.
