Chautauqua at Mills Shows Ten Year Ellison White Program

The Ellison White Lyceum Chautauqua Association marks its tenth year in the west with Mills events April 21 to 25. Captain T Dinsmore Upton lectures on youth citizenship and play, while William E Bohn addresses America Among Nations. Virgil Shepherd discusses As a Man Thinketh So Is He. Hartley Manner's Happiness with Elias Day Players, Garner Jubilee Company, Biltmore Orchestra, Patricia Trio, and Loren Sites Company provide features. The big brown top will serve as social center across the week.

Village election passes off quietly with new mayor

The village election last Tuesday produced Dr M D Gibbs as mayor with 156 votes to Juan Boriguez 89. Clerk winner F L Schultz 142. Trustees chosen were Sam Strong 181, W W Gilstrap 160, Paul Haines 146, Alberto Branch 138, Richard Kilmurry 137, BE J Roy 137. New board takes over first Monday in May.

Two Young Ladies Pass Away in Mesa Tragedy

Mary Laughter of Solano School and Mable Lumbach of Harding County High School died within days of each other. Mary, born 1905 in Stillwater Arkansas, died at Plumlee Hospital after a serious operation. Mable passed at home after a relapse of flu and pneumonia. Both were bright, active students with many friends and church ties. Funeral for Mary was at Solano Church with Rev. L. S. Smith officiating.

Obituary for Mabel Laumbach Harding County student

Mabel Anna Eleanor Laumbach born October 24 1902 in Las Cueve New Mexico grew up on a ranch near Roy. She attended Allison James School Santa Fe and Harding County High School where she died at age 59 years 5 months after illness from influenza pneumonia and spinal meningitis. She joined the Presbyterian Church in Santa Fe and was cherished by classmates and teachers.

Baptist Church Rally Boosts Campaign and Stores

The Baptist Church Rally held Monday attracted prominent speakers from Sunday School and college circles. They promoted a 5,000,000 campaign and aim to collect payments by April 30. Roy’s team, with E Paxton Gro Co and A Bachrach Exchange, report a major store space swap boosting trade and expansion plans.

Large Roy crowd attends Floersheim drawing attracts 1500

In Roy last Saturday over 1,500 people gathered for the Floersheim Company drawing. Prizes included a wagon to Henry Jeff Slusher, a Buffet to Mrs. F. A. Roy, a Kitchen Cabinet to Miss Etta Hornbaker, an oil stove to Tom Hughes, and a set of dishes to Mrs. K. F. Woodman. The event drew visitors from Mosquero Mills Abbott Solano David Gladstone Kephart Albert Yatesville and Pasamonte, with autos crowding the streets and garages full. The drawing was run by Schulitz Jol and Miss Cingham of near Mills, leaving many satisfied with the proceedings.

Death claims beloved local girl after long illness

After a lengthy illness, Mabel passes away at age twelve days, leaving four sisters Alicia Verna Frances and Ruth and two brothers Joyce and Daniel, with sorrowing parents and many relatives. Funeral services were held by Rev. R A Price of Weed New Mexico, followed by burial in Roy Cemetery. The Spanish American remembers the family and school children in mourning their loss.
