The tale, cited by the Portland Oregonian, drew scrutiny for nonservice-based grounds.
The Hay Fever Association would benefit from Dr Kings New Discovery for Consumption as it claims to cure consumption asthma and lung troubles. The ad vows it drives disease from the system and offers trial bottles free with prices 50c and 1.00 for regular use.
Lord Kelvin estimated that if 1,000,000,000 suns were distributed in a sphere 18 quintillion miles radius 25 million years ago they would now move at speeds similar to visible stars. He inferred the total gravitating matter in the visible universe is close to 1,000,000,000 suns in mass.
An old advertisement claims Electric Bitters cures nervous troubles backache and weak kidneys in women. It describes symptoms like melancholy loss of appetite headaches sleeplessness and fainting and promotes the remedy as a 50 cent drugstore buy with satisfaction guaranteed.
